Survived another Super Surgery Weekend! And boy what a weekend it was. Did 40 cataract surgeries back to back. Once a month, we do cataract surgery 4 days in a row from Thursday until Sunday. We do this for the convenience of our patients so they don’t have to take off time from work. The days are long and we operate into the night. This past weekend was particularly challenging as we had a series of rock hard red/brown cataracts, white cataracts, pseudoexfoliation, and aqueous misdirection. I found myself holding my breath in the OR several times!
➡️At our office, we do LASER-assisted cataract surgery which makes the surgery bladeless and safer. We also offer our patients PREMIUM intraocular lenses which restore not only their distance vision but also their near vision (ie no more reading glasses ). Shout out to my amazing laser and OR staff!
While this entire past week has been exhausting, I am forever in awe of my profession. Microsurgery, while challenging, is so incredibly fun! And the best part of ophthalmology is being able to restore another person’s sight, independence, and quality of life with just a single procedure. Usually by post-op day 1. Nothing makes a doctor happier than a happy patient.
